We arrived at Black Bear just before 8:30 on Mother's Day and were met with about a twenty-minute wait, mostly due to the fact that we were a party of nine. Entering one of these, whether it be a Carrow's, Coco's, or repurposed as another restaurant, always brings back a flood of childhood memories. This Fullerton location in unmistakeable as a former Bob's Big Boy. Prices range from $8 for small breakfasts to $16.99 for the most expensive thing on their breakfast portion of the menu, the Steak and Eggs. There's plenty in the way of egg combos, omelets, scrambles, benedicts, pancakes, waffles, and Mexican breakfast favorites. The menu includes lunch and dinner options, but of course, since we were here for Mother's Day brunch, breakfast is what we focused on. That environment includes carved bear statues in the front of each restaurant, bear paraphilia all over the place, and a menu that doubles as a faux newspaper and is laden with plenty of bear puns for your perusal before your food comes out. Bob is the man who is credited with creating the environment and atmosphere of Black Bear Diner. Bruce is the business guy, who has plenty of experience in the restaurant business. They were founded in Mount Shasta in 1995 by good friends Bruce Dean and Bob Manley. They have 133 locations, most of which are situated in the western US, but they also have some spots as far east as Missouri. You can also be like us and sign up as eClub members to get great deals! They even have a Passport club you can sign up for so that when you visit one of their many locations, you can get it stamped and earn prizes.I did not know it at the time we were here, but Black Bear is a rather big chain of restaurants. The options on the menu are endless, so we will definitely be back for more.Ī few other things to note is that you can order food and gifts from their website. On our way out, we checked out the gift area. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive and made the experience that much better. There were also samples of their bear claw and pies. Lindsey had the parmesan sourdough cheeseburger with kettle-style parmesan chips and she was not disappointed.Įven though we were stuffed, we finished with some amazing peach cobbler ala mode.

And they even had bacon in the ranch dressing. And those green beans were the best I have had in a long time! Look at the bacon on my baked potato. Usually, when I order a steak at medium, it comes out medium well. I ordered the New York steak cooked at medium. We had a huckleberry shake and it was delicious! Normal people start with a salad or appetizer, but not us. But the greatest thing about the menu is that there is a huge breakfast section. Also, some of the entrees came with a soup or salad, cornbread (so good) and your choice of sides. The portions are huge and many of the entrees on the menu came with a lite portion option. They print the menus on newspaper and they use actual stories in history from whatever city your restaurant is located. Black Bear Diner is all about community and they show it. The staff members were very friendly and showed us to our seats. The first thing we noticed was the amazing bear-themed atmosphere.

So when my wife and I got an invite to try the first Black Bear Diner in Oklahoma for free, we were ecstatic. When that company is a restaurant, I know I’m going to try it. When a business enters the area in which I live, it peaks my interest.
